Products I’m Loving

Since the beginning of the year, I have been blessed with the opportunity to sample a handful of new healthy food products on the market! And today I wanted to share with you some of my favorites!
Products I'm Loving

Cave Cravings: Cave Cravings does the hunting and gathering for you! They find the best selection of Paleo-approved, organic, unprocessed snacks available, box them up and send them right to your doorstep! Cave Cravings sent me a box of snacks to try, and I was thrilled to discover some amazing new products that I love! Here’s what I received:

  • Wonderfully Raw Coco-Roons: I buy Hail Merry Macaroons on a regular basis, so I was excited to give Coco-Roons a try! These organic, gluten-free, and dairy-fee, treats are seriously to die for. The moist texture and tasty coconut-y goodness of these macaroons make it impossible to stop after just one! I love the simplicity of the ingredients: coconut, almond flour, maple syrup, coconut oil, and Himalayan salt. The Lemon Pie flavor has added lemon zest that offers a tangy lemon flavor and the Vanilla Maple flavor has added vanilla that makes them melt in your mouth. I can’t wait to try all of the other flavors Coco-Roons has to offer including Brownie, Apple Pie, Cacao Nib, and Almond & Strawberry “PB & J”!
  • Bearded Brothers Bars: Bearded Brothers was a brand I was unfamiliar with until Cave Cravings and I’m so glad I discovered them! The Texas-based snackfood company was created by two brothers who are passionate about the outdoors, staying fit, and healthy organic food. Their bars are raw, vegan, gluten-free, soy-free and made with organic ingredients. I tried the Radial Raspberry Lemon and Mighty Maca Chocolate flavors. The Radical Raspberry Lemon was my favorite, not only because of the flavor but because it’s completely nut-free! Some of my favorite superfood ingredients in these tasty bars include figs, sun butter, hemp seeds, chia seeds, cold-pressed lemon extract, maca powder, and cacao nibs. Other Bearded Brothers bar flavors include Bodacious Blueberry Vanilla, Colossal Coconut Mango and Fabulous Ginger Peach!
  • Sophia’s Survival Foods Jerky: One of my favorite on-the-go snacks when I’m traveling is protein-rich jerky. However, most commercial varieties sold in the store are cured with sugar, soy, MSG, sodium nitrate preservatives and sometimes even gluten. Sophia’s Survival Food natural beef jerky is made with hormone-free, locally grown, 100% grass-fed beef without the use of preservatives, fillers and sugar! This jerky offers everything real-food foodies have been looking for! The jerky from this California-based company comes in 4 flavors: Original, Mild, Spicy, and Chipotle Raisin. I sampled the Original and Mild varieties. The Original flavor has the most simplistic ingredient list: sea salt and vinegar while the Mild flavor includes sea salt, garlic, black pepper and lemon juice. Personally I preferred the Mild variety better than the Original simply because it has some extra flavor pizzazz. I can’t wait to try the Spicy and Chipotle Raisin flavors someday soon!
  • Caveman Bakery Caveman Cookies: The Caveman Bakery is a small, New York-based business that is passionate about providing all-natural Paleo-approved baked goods with healthy and pronounceable ingredients. I sampled the Original Caveman Cookie which is a Paleolithic take on the traditional oatmeal-raisin cookie. Ingredients include honey, almond flour, walnuts, raisins, ginger, nutmeg, and cinnamon. With honey being the first ingredient, these cookies are extremely sweet, really stick/chewy and honestly not necessarily my favorite. However, I would be interested in trying some of their other more interesting flavors: fruity spicy Rainforest, pumpkin maple New World, chocolate hazelnut Alpine, coconut macadamia Tropical!

Bare Fruit Snacks: Washington-based company Bare Foods has created the perfect, crunchy, and healthy snack! Bare Fruit Apple Chips are made from baked Washington State apples, are fat-free, rich in fiber, free of artificial additives and preservatives and most importantly, really delicious! Apple Chip flavors include Cinnamon, Fuji Red, Granny Smith, Sea Salt Caramel, and Chile Lime. My favorites are the Cinnamon, Fuji Apple and Granny Smith because they have no added sugar and even come in organic varieties! If you’re looking for a delicious, healthy and portable snack to replace the potato chips in your life, try a bag of Bare Fruit Apple Chips!

Califia Farms Almondmilk: Califia Farms is proud to offer Non-GMO Project Verified, high-quality, dairy-free, soy-free, gluten-free, and environmentally sustainable products straight from the San Joaquin Valley in California. Califia Farms Almondmilk is creamier than most almond milks because they add less water to the almond meal in the process of making it, resulting in a creamy dreamy beverage designed to be served hot or cold! It’s calcium fortified and rich in vitamin E, vitamin D and B vitamins. Almondmilk varieties include Unsweetened, Vanilla, Original, and Coconut Almondmilk Blend. The Coconut Almondmilk is absolutely my favorite – it’s the perfect unsweetened blend of nutty almond milk and silky toasted coconut cream making it the perfect addition to my coffee and smoothies! While Califia Farms products do contain less than 2% of the controversial ingredient carrageenan, the company has recognized consumer concern around this ingredient and are working on developing a version of Almondmilk without it.

Did I mention that Califia Farms also makes delicious Cold Brew Coffee? These almond milk-based coffee blends are made with Rainforest Alliance Certified Coffee and come in Café Latte, Double Espresso and Mocha flavors. While these can be served either hot or cold, my favorite thing to do is add a splash of the Mocha to my morning coffee in place of cream! Califia Farms also offers its own line of citrus juices which I cannot wait to try! Flavors include Lemon Limeade, Lemonade (made with Meyer lemons – yum!), Orange Juice, and Tangerine. Unfortunately my local Whole Foods Market doesn’t carry these, but I’m hoping to find them at another Whole Foods location nearby!
