Weeknight Meals

Good evening! Today was a chilly day here in Chicago. I couldn’t believe that it was only 37*F when I woke up this morning! Nevertheless I bundled up and headed out to the Division Street farmer’s market.  I picked up onions and heirloom tomatoes, for meals this week and some colorful dried corn ears of corn and tiny pumpkins on a stick for decoration around the house!

Today’s Crossfit group WOD was a “Deck of Cards” workout, meaning for each card you do the exercise that corresponds with the suit for as many reps as the card number. Each suit corresponded with the following:

Hearts – Jumping Squats
Diamonds – Push Ups
Spades – Burpees
Clubs – Weighted Russian Twist

So for example, if you draw a 5 of hearts, you do 5 jumping squats and so on until the deck is gone. Each person in the group takes turns drawing a card. You get to rest when it is your turn to draw while the remainder of the group continues with the exercise. Oh yeah, and for each Ace drawn the whole group runs 200m…in the freezing Chicago Fall weather.

We had to do our workout out on the loading dock this morning because the Row Marathon was going on inside this morning! I didn’t participate in the Row Marathon this year, but athletes who did rowed 26.2 miles as either a team of 2 or an individual. I stuck around for a bit after our WOD to cheer everyone on – they all did such an amazing job!

In other news, here’s what has been on the menu all week!

Heirloom Tomato and Mozzarella Pizza on Whole Wheat Crust

Tomato Basil Risotto Stuffed Heirloom Tomatoes

Butternut Squash Kale Flatbread

Can you believe tomato season is nearly over? While I’m certainly going to miss my delicious heirlooms, I’m ready for squash, pumpkin, and all the mouthwatering flavors that come along with the Fall season!

I’ve also bee busy finishing up a few decorating projects around the new place!

400 thread count sheets + 100% cotton quit = hotel-quality snoozing and inability to get out of bed!

My ladder desk fits neatly in the corner. I recently downsized to a smaller desk because I spend most of my time on the computer in the kitchen or comfortably on the couch and my desk ends up just being a storage area for unnecessary junk. I’m totally loving the look of this ladder desk though!

We finally have our new monogrammed towels from the wedding on display in the bathroom!

I even stored some of the extra towels in the gold birdcage we had as a card holder at our wedding reception!

And a new lantern for our wickless candle (our old one broke in the move) – love this!

I was on such a roll taking pictures of our new place for you guys…and then my camera ran out of batteries….

So unfortunately I’ll have to leave you hanging for now!

Best of luck to all the Chicago Marathoners tomorrow! We are hoping to catch some of the action in our neighborhood!

  1. Got a recipe for the stuffed tomatoes? I suppose one could pack any any ole risotto into a tomato, but tomato-basil sounds particularly suited for that task.

Love the colors and patterns in the bedroom. (Just need to hide the cords behind the desk and air vent in the mirror before submitting to Better Homes and Gardens 😉
