Healthy Holiday Teas

The holidays can create a lot of unwanted stress. Herbal teas can help sooth away stress and keep you healthy throughout the holiday season. If you are feeling adventurous, use these recipes to make your own teas from scratch. Combine all ingredients in a large cup or teapot, add boiling water, and steep for 5-10 minutes before serving. However, if you don’t have the time or patience to do so, look for teas at your supermarket that contain these ingredients for a more convenient way to reduce your holiday stress.

Keeping Warm: To help you stay warm on cold winter days drink tea containing cinnamon. Cinnamon increases blood flow and helps distribute heat throughout the body.

Orange, Cinnamon, and Peach Tea

  • 1 tsp ground fresh orange zest
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp chopped dried peach
  • 2 cups boiling water

Indigestion/Nervousness: To combat indigestion from heavy holiday meals or help sooth a nervous stomach before traveling drink tea with peppermint and ginger. These ingredients have a soothing, anti-nausea effect that eases the stomach.

Ginger Peppermint Tea

  • 1 tsp peeled and grated fresh ginger
  • 1/2 tsp dried pepperment leaves
  • 1 cup boiling water

Insomnia: Having trouble sleeping with all of the holiday stress weighing you down? Drink tea containing chamomile. Chamomile has a sedative effect that helps relax the body.

Chamomile and Lemongrass Tea

  • 1 tsp dried chamomile flowers
  • 1 tsp chopped dried lemongrass
  • 1 cup boiling water
