Recycling in Chicago

As you may recall, back in April I decided to start recycling in honor of Earth Day!

Since then I have a collected a variety of items to recycle; however I want to make sure all of the items are in accordance with the recycling standards of Chicago before I drop them off at my nearby recycling center.

According to the Chicago Recycling Coalition, here is a list of the items that are recyclable in the city of Chicago:

  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Aluminum cans
  • Tin and steel cans
  • Plastic bottles and containers marked 1,2,3,4,5,7 (not 6)
  • Milk containers
  • Juice containers
  • Waxy cardboard containers
  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Catalogs
  • Junk mail
  • Telephone books
  • Office paper
  • File folders
  • Cardboard boxes
  • Cereal boxes
  • Paper towel rolls
  • Paper bags
