Recipe Ideas for Labor Day

  • Quinoa Zucchini Burger by Olives and Garlic: Having vegetarians over for your weekend cookout? Bake a batch of these unique veggie burgers packed with protein-rich quinoa and nutrient-dense zucchini!
  • Zucchini Bread Cookie Whoopie Pies by Iowa Girl Eats: Nothing says summer quite like zucchini. Low-fat cream cheese filling is piped between two zucchini oatmeal cookies in this mouthwatering summer treat!
  • Caramelized Pork Tacos with Pineapple Salsa and Chili Sauce by Pinch of Yum: If you prefer to cook indoors this holiday weekend, these flavorful pork tacos are just the thing. Layered with spicy pork, sweet pineapple salsa and chipotle mayo, your guests won’t even miss the grill once they bite into one of these tacos!
  • Grilled Halibut Sandwiches with Jalapeno Slaw by Spouted Kitchen: Slaw is a summer staple we can’t leave out for Labor Day. Throw a few fish filets on the grill and top them with a creamy avocado slaw. Need a substitute for halibut? Use salmon or a tofu steak instead!
  • BBQ Baked Lentils by The Organic Dietitian: Instead of traditional baked beans, swap out the beans for hearty lentils! Toss everything in the slow cooker the night before your party and have this sticky sweet side dish ready to serve when your guests arrive.
  • Kickin’ Chicken Bites by Julie’s Eats & Treats: Football season starts this weekend and that means chicken wings are officially in season! Try these bite-sized chicken pieces which are baked and lightly dusted with brown sugar and cayenne pepper for an easy football party appetizer.
  • Frozen Rosemary Watermelon-ade by The First Mess: Blend together watermelon, strawberries, lemon and pineapple to create this refreshing drink for a hot summer day! Add a little vodka or rum for a one-of-a-kind “adult-friendly” cocktail.
  • 5 Minute White Peach Margaritas by The Clever Carrot: If watermelon isn’t you thing, how about summer peaches? This margarita features pureed fresh peaches blended with honey and lemon juice. Serve over ice with a sprig of mint.
