I’ve been following Angela’s blog from the beginning – the days when Oh She Glows was just a baby. It has truly been inspiring to watch her site and blog transform into such a beautiful masterpiece. And the recipes, oh the recipes! What I love about Oh She Glows is that Angela only posts her most tried and true mouthwatering recipes. Even if that means 10 attempts to make it perfect. Her determination to only provide readers with her best recipes is something to be valued and is evident in the superiority of her recipes both on her blog and in her cookbooks.

Oh She Glows Cookbook Review

Angela has written two cookbooks to day – The Oh She Glows Cookbook and the Oh She Glows Every Day Cookbook. A few things to be covered in this Oh She Glows cookbook review include the recipes, food photography, prep and cook time, and nutrition information.

Vegan Superfood Recipes:

  • The recipes in both cookbooks are packed with nutrient-dense superfoods! From Stuffed Avocado Salad and Roasted Garlic Basil Pesto Potatoes with Arugula to Meyer Lemon Cheesecake with Strawberry-Vanilla Compote and Mile-High Black-and-White Freezer Fudge, you’ll be sure to find something that catches your eye!
  • While the first cookbook featured all original recipes, such as Raw Buckwheat Breakfast Porridge, Chilled Chocolate-Espresso Torte and Healing Rooibos Tea (just to name a few favorites), the second cookbook has some repeats from the blog – including, but not limited to, Crispy Smashed PotatoesCrowd Pleasing Caesar SaladEndurance Crackers and PB&J Thumbprint Breakfast Cookies.
  • Beyond repeating recipes from the blog, there are duplicates in the book itself — the Reset Button Green Smoothie for example has separate entries for both “family-size” and “half batch” servings.
  • Despite all of this, I do enjoy the fact that there are entire chapters devoted to Smoothies and Smoothie Bowls as well as Cookies and Bars in the second book – my sweet tooth says thank you!

Mouthwatering Food Photography:

  • Both books feature stunning photos that are colorful, vibrant and mouthwatering.
  • The first cookbook was photographed by Angela herself, while the second was done by the talented Ashley McLaughlin of Edible Perspective.
  • Angela’s food photography style focuses on a moment in time – a scenario – as if you’re about to sit down with her and enjoy the meal together. I personally like this “full table” setup style better than simple focus on the single dish like Ashley does in the second book, but both styles are unique in their own ways and at the end of the day, both are beautiful!

Long Prep and Cook Times:

  • Angela’s recipes are known to take time – often you need to make something ahead of time or soak overnight. But readers are happy to go the extra mile because the results are always worth the wait!
  • That said, I was excited about the “every day” theme of the second cookbook. The recipes were said to be quick and simple – intended for consumers with busy lifestyles.
  • However, I felt like this theme was lacking in some of the recipes. There are a handful of recipes that include an entirely separate recipe as one of the key ingredients and many require a prep + cook time of over an hour.

No Nutrition Information:

  • As a dietitian, nutrition information is important to me and my clients.
  • Nutrition information was not included in the first cookbook.
  • Thankfully, it is mentioned in the introduction of the second cookbook with a link where readers can find these numbers online. However, I would have liked to see nutrition information actually printed alongside the recipes.

Angela’s passion for healthy eating, recipe development and food photography radiates from every page of these beautiful cookbooks. While the original OSG cookbook may have tugged at my heart strings a little stronger than this new one, I hope this Oh She Glows cookbook review has inspired you to cook a few healthy meals!
