Happy New Year!
Goodbye 2013 and hello 2014! 2013 was a great year, but I’m happy to see if go in hopes that 2014 will be even bigger and better! Here’s a quick look back at the last year.
Runs and Races – I had ambitions to complete a triathlon this year. While this goal remains incomplete, I did have a few notable fitness moments in 2013. In July I completed the Venus de Miles 25-mile bike ride with a fantastic group of ladies. In September I participated in the Big Ten 10K and later in October ran the Monster Dash 5K again. And finally, I tried Bikram yoga for the first time, attending an intensive beginner track of 8 classes in 2 weeks!
Travel – 2013 was a big year for traveling to Omaha. Will and I made the hike back home to Omaha in May for Easter, August for my sister’s engagement party, in October for the Northwestern/Nebraska football game, in November for Thanksgiving and finally again in December for Christmas! We also traveled to Las Vegas for our first year wedding anniversary in June! Oh yeah, and I finally got around to legally changing my last name to Thomsen – only took a year of marriage to do it lol (sorry Will!).
- Professional – At the start of 2013, I had a goal to make a notable move in my career. I had been working a full-time job in addition to Eat Chic Chicago for several years and wanted to put more time into building my business (read more about my journey to becoming a dietitian). In March I cut my job back to part-time. In May I began renting my own office space downtown. In September I got some fabulous professional headshots (with my sassy new 2013 haircut!) by Paul Audia Photography. And finally in October I made the leap to pursue my nutrition consulting practice full-time! This was definitely my biggest (and scariest!) accomplishment of 2013. Who knows what 2014 has in store for me now!
So what are my expectations for 2014? I won’t bore you with all of my professional business goals, but I am hoping to run another half marathon, take more yoga classes, travel to Florida for my sister’s wedding, travel to Las Vegas for a friend’s bachelorette party, and maybe even end up on the slopes during a ski trip somewhere to ring in 2015!
