For our 1 year anniversary Will and I took a weekend trip to Las Vegas last weekend!
Unfortunately our flight was 2 hours delayed out of Chicago Thursday night. But we rolled into our hotel at Caesar’s Palace around 1AM and got a lovely free upgrade to a nicer room! Leaving for the airport in Chicago around 5PM, we were starving by then so we hit up a new place called Secret Pizza in The Cosmopolitan. They had an incredible white pizza with pesto, olive oil, and delicious white cheese blend including dollops of ricotta! On our walk back to the room, I put a couple bucks in a slot machine that night and won $20! Nothing like staring the trip off as a winner!
We spent most of Friday at the pool hanging out with my sister and her friend – they were in town the same weekend celebrating a bachelorette party for an old college friend. In case you’re wondering, that’s a frozen mojito, not green smoothie! That evening we had a late dinner at Holsteins, a gastopub in the Cosmopolitan. We hadn’t eaten all day and were so HANGRY by then that we loaded up on tons of good food – Truffle Lobster Mac & Cheese, and Buffalo Chicken Dip for appetizers and I had the Steakhouse Burger (a black pepper crusted burger with steak sauce, marmalade onions, tomato confit, wild mushrooms) for my meal – although after our appetizers, I only made it through a few bites!
I spend Saturday morning shopping the Forum Shops at Caesar’s while Will slept and then we checked out and moved on to our next destination – MGM Grand. Every time we go to Las Vegas, we split our time between two hotels – just to check them out!
First stop, the pool! The weather in Las Vegas that weekend was above 100*F every day we were there so it was great to float around the lazy river at the MGM Grand for the afternoon.
We had lunch at the Cabana Grill before we went for a dip.
I had the grilled fish tacos which were DELICIOUS!
And a Shock Top to drink!
After spending the day at the pool we made our way down to the casino where I won another $126 on a lucky slot machine and came out $10 ahead at the craps table.
For dinner, Will wanted to check out BurGR – a new Gordon Ramsy restaurant at Planet Hollywood. I had a burger topped with arugula, onion jam, and goat cheese. We both agreed that we’ve had better burgers in Chicago, but that the presentation of the food at the restaurant was worth stopping by.
Not to mention our spotting of the Jonas Brothers while we were in line waiting for a table!
Sunday morning we walked over to The Quad to check out Hash House A Go Go. We have one here in Chicago, but we’ve never been there and heard it was highly recommended for brunch!
We split one of their famous flapjacks. And then things got interesting… Our waiter recommended we order one of two things on the menu – Chicken and Waffles or Andy’s Sage Fried Chicken Benedict.
We went with the benedict. Low and behold a Man vs. Food Favorite – Andy’s Sage Friend Chicken with fresh spinach, hardwood smoked bacon, market tomatoes, griddle mozzarella, chipotle cream and scrambled eggs served over a fresh split biscuit and griddle mashed potatoes. It was one of those dishes that the restaurant is known for, you see coming out of the kitchen left and right, and you simply cannot leave the restaurant without trying it. Needless to say I only made it through about 10 bites before I couldn’t continue any further. It was definitely a dish to remember!
It was at this point I thought of Kath’s post where she talked about being a foodie making weight management more difficult. I feel the tug and pull between being a foodie and being a dietitian especially on vacation where I feel the need to taste absolutely everything.
Sunday evening we had tickets to see the new Michael Jackson ONE by Cirque du Soleil! We got a couple signature Michael Jackson drinks and headed into the theater.
The set up of the stage was incredible and the dance performances were out of this world! It was the perfect tribute to Michael Jackson and the talented dancers and acrobats were outstanding!
Monday it was time to head home. We stopped for lunch at the Cafe Vettro in Aria for a quick bite before heading back to the airport.
They had the cutest mini condiments that I couldn’t help but snap of a photo of them!
Every time we go to Las Vegas we discover something new – new shows, new restaurants, new hotels. We had such a blast and cannot BELIEVE it has already been a year since our wedding!!
