Homemade Fruit and Vegetable Juice

Another rainy day in Chicago – or at least that’s how it started. The sun came out just in time for the Bears game, if only we had a grill my Sunday would be complete. Since we’ve moved into our new garden apartment we have been meaning to clean up the backyard and put a small grill out on the patio for football season. Sadly, we haven’t gotten around to it yet. So instead of grilling, I juiced.

Friday I went to Stanley’s for tons of fruits and vegetables. If you live in Chicago and have never been to Stanley’s, you’ve got to go. Stanley’s is a grocery store in Lincoln Park that sells solely fresh fruits and vegetables, that’s it. And their prices cannot be beat. I am always shocked in the checkout line when my cart stacked high with organic produce rings up to only $20. With my fridge full of produce, I’ve been on a juicing kick this weekend.

First up, Strawberry Carrot Orange Juice

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries
  • 2 carrots
  • 1 orange, peeled

Next in line, Beet Carrot Apple Juice

  • 2 beets, tops included
  • 2 carrots
  • 2 apples

Both juices were good, but I think I liked the Strawberry Carrot Orange best. The second one was a bit too “beety” for me, I’d do one beet instead of 2 next time around. Now back to relaxing, watching football, and wedding planning. Go Bears!
