Turkey Sloppy Joes

Last night I made Turkey Sloppy Joes with leftovers from around the kitchen. They were an extremely easy and quick dinner option. Using a leaner meat like ground turkey or chicken in place of ground beef for any recipe is always a healthier option. Not only will it reduce the fat content of your meal but it will taste great too!

Ingredients:

  • 2 turkey Italian sausages (casing removed)
  • 2 turkey burgers
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 jar of pasta sauce (about 5 oz)
  • 2 Tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 Tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 4 whole wheat hamburger buns

In a large pot on medium-high heat, combine sausage, burgers, bell pepper, onion, and garlic. Cook until meat is no longer pink. Drain off some of the fat before adding tomato sauce, tomato paste, chili powder, and oregano. Allow mixture to come to a boil. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes. It’s as simple as that!
