The professor of my Food Science class is a chef and taught me how to make this flawless red sauce, it was AMAZING! It was the best red sauce I had ever had and I couldn’t wait to share it with you guys!
Classic Red Sauce
vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, grain-free, soy-free, dairy-free, peanut-free, tree nut-free, seed-free, sugar-free, shellfish-oil, fish-free, bean & legume-free
- 2 onions, chopped
- 2-3 celery sticks, chopped
- 2-3 carrots, peeled and chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, roughly chopped
- 1 red pepper, chopped
- 1 cup red wine
- Olive oil
- 2 Tbsp oregano, dried
- 1 Tbsp basil, dried
- 1/2 Tbsp thyme, dried
- 4 cans tomato sauce
- 2 cans diced tomatoes
Sauté onions in olive oil over medium heat until well caramelized (this takes about 20-30 minutes).
Add each of the following ingredients one at a time and stir them until you can smell them: carrots, celery, pepper, and garlic.
Add oregano, basil, and thyme.
Add the red wine and stir until it is almost completely evaporated. We used this delicious Shiraz Cabernet blend!
Finally, add diced tomatoes and tomato sauce. Let simmer for about 30 minutes. Enjoy with any dish of your choice!
